Airtel ready to launch 4G LTE in Kolkata this month

Airtel

Surprised, aren’t you?! …and yes, so am I. I was definitely not expecting this so early. Even the 3G services provided by the companies are not being used by a normal mobile internet user and here is Airtel, all set to launch the 4G TD-LTE network in Kolkata this month!!

This was confirmed by Sanjay Kapoor (CEO, Airtel).

According to industry estimates, by 2016 – 6% of all mobile connections will have 4G connection, which would create 36% of the total mobile data traffic – thus paving way for the ensuing data revolution. The impending launch of 4G in the country will provide ultra high speed data access, driving fundamental changes in society at large. We look forward to the launch of 4G technology in India, which will be timed to match the world in its launch.

Airtel is directly launching the 4G service without doing any trials (or maybe they’re done with it secretly!). Airtel has selected ZTE to help them set up and deliver its 4G network.

A new internet era is starting. We can now expect cheaper 3G services.

Sadly enough, that doesn’t make any difference to me or at least my friends. As its been quite a while since airtel launched its 3G services in India but I still couldn’t a working 3G plan for me.
