Common Web Design Mistakes to Avoid

Author: Sam   Last updated on: May 19, 2024    6 Comments

As well as the main positive elements that make up a website, it is also worth knowing about some of the mistakes that are commonly made. This way, you are going to be able to avoid repeating them yourself, and you will not have to go through the major effort and upheaval of going all the way back to the start all over again. So, here are just a few of these to take into account.

Too Busy

When many people are making a website, they are often so overwhelmed with ideas and excitement that they automatically start to push too much onto the site. As a result, it can easily start to look too ‘busy’ and people can easily start to get overwhelmed. Instead of making this common error, it is worth approaching the site from a minimalist perspective. Making the most of plenty of white space on the site can really make all the difference.

Confusing Navigation

While you may know just how to navigate around a website, this may not be the case for other people. Therefore, you should aim not to overcomplicate the site with navigation that simply does not make sense. If you need web design in the West Midlands, try ALT Agency experts as they will be able to help out with problems such as the navigation of a site.

No Calls to Action

When people are on a site, you want to make their lives as easy as possible rather than assuming that they are going to be able to get the hang of everything with ease. This means that you should write calls to action that clearly explain what you would like them to do – whether this is to sign up to your newsletter, take part in new subscription model, or buy a product that you have just released or is currently on sale.

Irrelevant Imagery

While many people rely on stock imagery, the main problem with it is that it can easily start to seem irrelevant to your website as a whole. As such, you should certainly consider having the pictures taken professionally. In this way, it is much more likely that they are going to match up accordingly and your pictures really can be worth a thousand words.

Hard to Find Contact Info

Another main problem that you should avoid is burying your contact information somewhere that is difficult to find. This is simply down to the fact that if people are not able to find the details that they are looking for, they are much more likely to become frustrated and will head elsewhere as a result of this.

When it comes to designing a website, it is certainly important that you sidestep all of these issues as much as possible and walk away with a site that looks great and functions superbly. This way, you are much more likely to be able to achieve all of the goals that you have set out successfully.

Fantastic article! I noticed throughout all of these point to consider, the customer/consumer is always the focus. Making call to actions and contact forms a primary focus os what will get you to convert them into leads. I am currently working on a couple websites and this is a nice reminder that a website needs a strong foundation to be succesful.

I think there are a lot of commen mistakes on webdesign. Basicly most people just thinkin on the design side not the usability, which makes a website much more better to handle.
